Prior to NF that would have been a godly drop (a duel modded shield with two max/near max mods that correspond to each other). Now, eh.

As has been said many times - you can not have rare expensive items drop all the time.
If golds (rares) dropped at the rate they do for other games then you would be quite happy with it. If they were to make the drops better then it would *still* be nothing more than merch food as all the mods and rare skins would be totally worthless also (having had so many of them you wouldn't need anymore either). The only stat on anything that regularly drops from almost any source is what the merchant is willing to pay for it. About the only place that regularly drops rare items where they will continue to be rare is the chest from holding the Hall of Heroes, even then those items are quickly coming down in price. Note this is what happened to dead sword - suddenly hard mode dropped "good weapons", that lasted a whole day or two and then complaints about gold r10 Dead Swords not being worth the difficulty. Of course, before that there were tons of complaints that they couldn't get dead swords - ah well. GW is, and always has been, about the trip not the drop at the end (how can it be about items when perfect items drop every few hours for anyone who plays). I do not see anyway for them to do what you want without completely changing the game. |

What are you saying? What do I need to know about Santa? I am going to be concerned all day. Christmas is getting closer. I hope he is ok. |

Yea, I see your req 12 shield and raise it.
I got a req 13 shield from Duncan's chest. I was not amused.

Let's say chests get fixed. Every chest not has a guaranteed crystaline r9 with fortitude mod dropping.
What have you gained? If you like the skin, you'll get it. It'll be useless for all non-warriors though. If you don't like the skin, you would normally sell it for 100k+e. But guess what - since they are guaranteed drop, they sell for merchant price of 287g. If you're not a warrior, you'll be here on forums, whining about how chests don't drop anything but crap crystalines. Everyone would be buying r12 Tall Shields, since those wouldn't drop anymore, and since nobody has them anymore, and would then be rare items, leading to next wave of whining about how it's unfair that people who got tall shields sooner are now rich. There's a reason rare drops are desired. Has to do with rarity vs. desirability. Make rewards from chests "good", and you make them worthless. |

With 1000's of people opening end of dungeon chests every day, if not every hour only 1-10 will actually get a nice skin with good mods and a low requirement.
Assume that half of those drops are kept and the rest sold ingame or on forums and thats 5 new perfect items added to the already flooded market of GW every day. I decided that I wanted a Darkwind Defender, 2 weeks later I bought one, R10 Gold inscribed in Lions Arch. IF you want a rare skin, somebody somewhere is selling it. IF you want it to drop for you, remeber that you may need to open that chest 10 000 times to get it and it may not be the req you want or have the mods you want. |
